Product guide

Every feature has a job to do.

SousMate is designed as one connected cooking loop. The plan informs the shopping list, the pantry improves the recommendations, and finishing a recipe prepares the next decision.

Plan

A week that respects the clock.

The core planner turns each breakfast, lunch, and dinner into a structured choice instead of a blank search box.

Weekly planner

Meal slots built around your schedule

Free members can plan today and tomorrow, with up to three committed meals each week. Plus and Pro open the full seven-day view, with up to 15 or 21 committed meals. Each meal slot holds three effort routes.

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Local-time scheduling
  • Committed meals stay protected during regeneration

Three effort routes

Quick, Standard, and Involved

Rather than forcing one answer, SousMate offers recipes across three time ranges. On a short day, the ranges compress to fit your available window.

  • Quick normally ends at 15 minutes
  • Standard normally covers 16 to 30 minutes
  • Involved normally covers 31 to 60 minutes

Planner controls

Re-roll, pin, search, and move

Refresh all three routes for one meal, pin a specific recipe into a slot, search the validated recipe library, or move planned slots around your week. Committed and cooked slots are protected from accidental replacement.

  • Previously shown recipes are tracked
  • Re-roll limits depend on plan
  • Search continues to filter profiled allergens

Start-time reminders

Know when prep needs to begin

For a committed meal, SousMate calculates the reminder from meal time, prep time, cook time, and a 15-minute buffer. Notifications are scheduled in your detected local timezone.

  • Recipe-specific reminder
  • Calculated from the committed meal
  • Timezone-aware delivery

Pantry

Enough inventory to be useful.

SousMate avoids spreadsheet-style inventory. It focuses on whether an ingredient can support a meal and updates that state as you cook.

Rapid pantry

Tap common ingredients in or out

A categorized ingredient list makes quick pantry updates possible. Normalized base ingredients connect everyday names and recipe ingredients without treating every package variation as a new item.

  • One-meal-worth default model
  • Meal counts for repeated ingredients
  • Bulk staples can be treated as ongoing supply

Voice inventory

Say what came home from the store

Speak a natural grocery note. SousMate sends the transcript, not stored audio, for structured extraction, then lets you review and remove anything incorrect before saving.

  • Available on every plan
  • Review before inventory changes
  • Ingredient and category extraction

Pantry matching

See how much of a recipe is already there

A percentage compares required recipe ingredients with current inventory. Optional items and assumed staples are excluded so the number reflects meaningful meal coverage.

  • Required ingredients only
  • Staples excluded
  • Used as a recommendation signal

After cooking

The kitchen updates itself

Marking a meal cooked records it in history and reduces the meal-count availability for the non-optional ingredients used. That keeps the next plan closer to the actual kitchen.

  • Atomic cooked state update
  • Non-optional ingredients depleted
  • Confirmation shows what changed

Decide now

Two shortcuts for a spontaneous meal.

The weekly plan remains the center of SousMate, but not every cooking decision starts on Sunday.

What to Eat

A short craving quiz

Answer questions about meal type, hunger, temperature, flavor, base, and adventurousness. A deterministic scorer ranks validated recipes using those answers, preferences, recent history, and pantry match.

  • No AI in the ranking step
  • Allergens and dislikes remain hard excludes
  • Free: 3 per week, Plus: 10, Pro: unlimited

Voice Quick Pick

Describe what you have and how fast you need it

Speak ingredients, a time constraint, and an optional meal type. AI converts the sentence into structured fields, then the standard recipe system filters and ranks three results.

  • Plus: 10 sessions per day
  • Pro: unlimited sessions
  • Audio is transcribed for processing, not stored by SousMate

Cook

The recipe stays useful after you choose it.

A committed recipe becomes a working surface for prep, technique, timing, and adjustments.

Full recipe

Measurements, instructions, and nutrition

Commitment unlocks exact ingredient amounts, complete steps, approximate nutrition per serving, and the calculated start time. The recipe remains available through the plan and your authorized history.

  • Ingredient amounts
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat

Guided cooking

One step at a time, with the screen awake

Guided mode breaks instructions into sentences, keeps the display active, shows ingredients referenced in the current step, and recognizes written cooking times for optional timers.

  • Step progress
  • Ingredient references
  • Range-aware timers and completion alerts

Sous Chef

Help scoped to the recipe in front of you

Ask about a substitute, technique, adjustment, or problem. The assistant receives the current recipe, relevant pantry context, dietary needs, and allergens. It is instructed to stay within cooking and the active dish.

  • Free: 3 messages per day
  • Plus: 10 per day
  • Pro: unlimited

Safety substitutions

Allergen help never spends a message

A flagged ingredient can open a pre-built request for an appropriate substitute. This path is available on all plans and does not count against Sous Chef message limits.

  • Available to every plan
  • Uses recipe and allergy context
  • Still requires label and ingredient verification

Remember and prepare

Today's choices improve tomorrow's kitchen.

Committed meals connect to shopping, nutrition, saved recipes, and cooking history.

Shopping list

Buy the gap, not the whole recipe

For committed, uncooked meals in the current week, SousMate totals required ingredients, subtracts pantry meal counts, removes bulk items, and groups what remains by category.

  • Plus and Pro
  • Current committed week
  • Marking an item bought updates pantry counts

Nutrition

See the plan by day and by week

Nutrition views total the approximate values attached to committed recipes. History depth varies by plan, from one week on Free to four weeks on Plus and thirteen weeks on Pro.

  • Daily and weekly totals
  • Week-over-week comparison on eligible plans
  • Informational estimates, not medical guidance

Saved recipes

Keep the meals worth repeating

Bookmark recipes and preserve accepted substitutions. The saved library supports 5 recipes on Free, 15 on Plus, and 30 on Pro.

  • Personal saved collection
  • Stored substitutions
  • Server-enforced plan limits

Cooking history

A record of what reached the table

Cooked recipes can include a rating and notes. The Settings view shows the most recent 5 entries on Free, 15 on Plus, or 30 on Pro.

  • Cooked date
  • Optional rating
  • Optional personal notes

Three plans

Start useful. Add capacity when you need it.

All plans include the safety foundation, voice pantry entry, and a real planning experience. Plus and Pro expand the week, tools, and usage limits.
